The Transurban Bridge to Brisbane celebrated a major milestone on Sunday, marking 30 years of Queensland's largest and most iconic fun run, with a record 40,000 runners, walkers and rollers taking part. The event once again brought communities together from across South East Queensland while raising vital funds for charities and community organisations.
As a long-standing supporter and major sponsor of the event, Transurban was proud to have more than 400 employees, business partners, family members and friends participate in the milestone anniversary. Together, Team Transurban raised more than $60,000 for BRAKE Driver Awareness, helping fund road safety education programs in schools across Queensland.
The funds will support BRAKE's work in equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe on the roads, reinforcing Transurban's commitment to helping create safer journeys for Queensland communities.
The iconic Gateway Bridge once again took centre stage, giving participants the rare opportunity to run, walk or roll across one of Brisbane's most recognisable landmarks while it was closed to traffic. Bridge to Brisbane remains the only day each year the community can experience the bridge in this way, with spectacular views of Brisbane and Moreton Bay adding to the occasion.
Transurban General Manager Queensland Theuns Lloyd said the event's 30th anniversary showcased the enduring community spirit that has made Bridge to Brisbane a Queensland tradition.
"It's always special to see the Gateway Bridge transformed from a key piece of transport infrastructure into a space where tens of thousands of Queenslanders come together to run, walk and roll in one of the state's most iconic community events," Mr Lloyd said.
"As we celebrate 30 years of Bridge to Brisbane, we're especially proud that Team Transurban more than doubled its fundraising target for BRAKE Driver Awareness. Road safety is at the heart of what we do, and supporting initiatives that help young people develop safe driving habits is one of the most meaningful ways we can contribute to reducing road trauma in the years ahead."
Behind the scenes, Transurban's Traffic Control Room hosted the event command centre, where operators monitored the course throughout the day and helped ensure the safe delivery of Queensland's largest fun run.
