As works ramp up on the West Gate Tunnel Project, we’ll be rolling out more freeway incident response services to help keep traffic moving in the west.

From today, drivers travelling on the West Gate Freeway will enjoy a safer, more reliable journey as our incident response team extends its coverage area beyond CityLink as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project agreement.

The new incident response coverage area extends along the West Gate Freeway all the way west to the M80 interchange.

To accommodate this additional coverage area, four new vehicles have been added to our fleet and three new staging areas created along the road so vehicles can access the freeway and attend incidents.

Head of Assets Victoria, Phil Naulls, said our experienced crews would be close by to help drivers and clear the road quickly and safely, keeping everyone on the go.

 “We have almost 200 incidents on CityLink every week, and our safe clearance model helps keep traffic moving. Since our new fleet of vehicles came online late in 2016, we’ve improved clearance times on CityLink by more than 60 per cent,” Phil said.

“This extension of our incident response area means more reliable travel for drivers on the West Gate Freeway and faster, safer help for those who break down on the road.”
