As people slowly get back on the roads over the coming months, we’re calling on motorists to obey speed limits and ensure vehicle loads are secure after observing an alarming increase in speeding motorists and debris coming loose on the road during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Despite there being over 50 per cent less traffic on CityLink in April, our incident response crews have been just as busy as ever, with incidents only decreasing by 18 per cent compared with the same period last year.
In April there was actually an increase in the number of incidents involving debris and loads falling off vehicles and into the path of oncoming traffic.
As restrictions ease over the coming months our traffic control room operators and incident response crews will be closely monitoring changing traffic conditions to ensure a smooth return to the roads for Melburnians.
