A new study conducted by educational institution George Mason University in the U.S. has reported that construction of the Maryland Express Lanes project will have a $12.6 billion economic impact on the Greater Washington Area and create thousands of jobs. The new infrastructure is “crucial” to the economic health of the region, according to the analysis.

Accelerate Maryland Partners, comprised of Transurban and Macquarie Capital, have been selected as the developers to advance predevelopment work for the first phase of the estimated $6 billion Maryland Express lanes project. The project will deliver 60 km of new Express Lanes and a new American Legion Bridge – ultimately creating 160 km of seamless, reliable travel choices for those in the Greater Washington Area.

In addition to far-reaching economic benefits, the Maryland Express project will bring significant investment in transit, new bicycle and pedestrian connections, workforce development, and storm water management.
