Will’s up late fine-tuning our tunnels

Every couple of months, Transurban closes its road tunnels overnight for maintenance and upgrade projects.

Considering the impact these closures can have on Sydney drivers, getting everything done right is essential. And we have as many as 200 of the best people on hand to make that happen. People like Will, one of our dedicated Tunnel Maintenance Project Managers.

While managing the hundreds of thousands of elements that make up a fully operational tunnel might be intimidating, Will takes it on in his stride. Having a meticulous, methodical approach to work, with a degree in civil engineering the attention to detail Transurban applies to tunnel maintenance suits him to a tee.

Whether it’s resurfacing the road, overhauling the Jet fans, refurbishing the Control Centre or fitting the infrastructure out with the most up-to-date systems and materials, every single aspect of a tunnel is considered. Because when it comes to making sure our tunnels are as safe as they are state-of-the-art, anything less would be unacceptable.

It’s challenging work – but for an engineer with an inquisitive mind, it’s endlessly rewarding.
