The reference design for the Logan West Upgrade has been released, marking an important milestone in plans to improve safety, reduce congestion, and support future growth along the Logan Motorway.
The project, being developed by Transurban in partnership with the Queensland Government, plans to upgrade approximately 10 kilometres of the western section of the Logan Motorway between the Ipswich Motorway and Mount Lindesay Highway. The Logan Motorway currently carries more than 210,000 vehicles and over $1 billion worth of freight every day – connecting communities, industrial precincts and key economic hubs across the region.
Once complete, the project is expected to improve travel times by up to 20 minutes during peak hour, which would result in up to 40 minutes of travel time saved on a round trip.
The reference design has been informed by community feedback gathered during public consultation in late 2024. Key issues raised by residents and motorists included the need to address congestion, improve local connectivity, enhance on and off ramp access, and manage noise and environmental impacts.
The proposed design includes targeted improvements aimed at delivering safer, faster and more reliable journeys, while also improving accessibility for heavy and oversized vehicles used by the freight industry and emergency services.
As part of the project, Transurban, in partnership with the Queensland Government, has also committed to launching a community grants program during construction. This initiative will support local organisations delivering programs focused on road safety, financial inclusion, environmental sustainability, and First Nations outcomes.
The project will now progress to detailed design and planning approvals. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, subject to approvals, with completion anticipated before 2032. We’ll continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses.
