Skills and experience 

Michael brings more than 30 years of experience in major project delivery and executive leadership across mining, infrastructure, energy, environment, utilities and telecommunications, together with a focus on sustainability and innovation.

Michael is currently Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer (since 2021) of Thiess Group, a leading global mining services provider. He also serves as a Director of the Minerals Council of Australia, Chair of the International River Foundation Board, a member of Birdon’s Advisory Board, and sits on the Strategic Advisory Board of the University of Queensland’s Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology.

Previously, Michael was CEO of ASX-listed CIMIC Group (2017–2020), where he led Sedgman, UGL, CPB Contractors, Leighton Asia, Pacific Partnerships and Thiess. He also served as a Non-Executive Director of ASX-listed Adbri Limited (2021–2024).
